The Guardian calls it, "A love letter to the movies and an appealingly intelligent evocation of the Jewish folk culture that formed the basis of American cinema." Watch a short interview with the director and cast for Travelling Lighthere. Funding for this series has been provided in part by the Coral Gables Community Foundation.
The play runs three hours including an intermission, and tickets to these special event programs are $20 general admission, $18 for seniors 65-and-over and full-time students (I.D. required), $16 for members of the Cinema, and $14 for children 12-and-under and are currently available for purchase in advance at Movietickets here for 2/25 and here for 2/26, and in person at the box office during regular screening hours.
More on "Pina" "Deeply in tune with Bausch's interest in bodies moving through space, Wenders uses 3D technology to play with the human perception of dimensionality as something subtle and profound, and not just a snazzy trick. The result, in Pina, is...wow." - Entertainment Weekly (read the full review here).
"Dance, dance, or we are lost," said Pina Bausch, and these words summarize her life and provide the inspiration for director Wim Wenders' breathtaking tribute to the legendary choreographer. Bausch and her Tanztheater Wuppertal elevated dance into subversive new expressive realms, and in this remarkable film Wenders captures the raw, heart-stopping intensity of the movement - his use of 3D turns dance into a transcendent cinematic experience. An official selection of the Berlinale, Telluride, Toronto and New York film festivals, and now Germany's official entry for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Pina features interviews with and performances by Bausch's beloved original company members, and offers an indelible image of an artist who went the full distance in her uncommonly rich creative life. Screenings of Pina will be preceded by a short film about Miami-based dancer/choreographer Heather Maloney, directed by Carlos Ochoa & Mia Leonin.
