U.S., 1978, 108 min, 35mm, Dir. John Landis, Rated R, Universal Pictures
"The movie is vulgar, raunchy, ribald, and occasionally scatological. It is also the funniest comedy since Mel Brooks made The Producers." - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
The Gables Cinema and the Secret Celluloid Society present John Landis’ irreverent 1978 classic National Lampoon’s Animal House on 35mm as part of our midnight After Hours series! At Faber College in 1962 a battle ensues between two rival fraternities... the Delta’s who are unapologetic partiers (starring John Belushi as the iconic John "Bluto" Blutarsky) with “trace” GPAs and the Omega’s who are rich, irrepressible brown-nosers. Dean Wormer wants the Delta’s expelled from campus and the Omega’s are all too happy to help. This film altered our consciences with many epic scenes – the toga party, the food fight, the roadhouse with Otis Day and the Knights, and a homecoming parade never to be forgotten – to name but a few! One of the paradigm films depicting the fears and loathing of college freshman everywhere, Variety notes, “There's enough bite and bawdiness to provide lots of smiles and several broad guffaws.”
After Hours is the best films you never saw on the big screen (or maybe you did) from late-night cult classics to foreign favorites and even summer blockbusters every Saturday night often on 35mm.
