"[Robert Zemeckis] handles Back to the Future with the kind of inventiveness that indicates he will be spinning funny, whimsical tall tales for a long time to come." - The New York Times
The Gables Cinema and the Secret Celluloid Society present Robert Zemeckis’ wonderful 80’s classic Back to the Future on spectacular 35mm as part of our After Hours series! In 1985, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is a bored teenager who hangs out with the odd-ball genius Doc Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). Doc has stolen a case of plutonium and rigged it to power a DeLorean time machine. While on a test drive, Marty accidentally transports himself to 1955 and nearly sabotages his parents first meeting – putting his very existence in question. Inventive, funny, and breathlessly constructed, Back to the Future won the 1986 Academy Award for Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing and has an incredible 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Time Out remarks, Back to the Future is, “Every bit as classy, clever and cockle-warming as it was 30 years ago.”
