"Die Hard is as high tech, rock hard and souped up as an action film can be." - Variety
The Gables Cinema and the Secret Celluloid Society present John McTiernan’s 1988 Christmas action classic, Die Hard, on 35mm as part of our After Hours series! NYPD badass, Officer John McClane (Bruce Willis), makes a Christmas visit to LA to see his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia). As he arrives, the Nakatomi Corp Christmas party is in progress on the 30th floor of the headquarters building. Suddenly, the party is violently overtaken by 13 terrorists, led by German anarchist Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman). Only McClane eludes capture and discovers the hostage exchange is only a cover-up for a larger plot as a daring rooftop helicopter rescue unfolds – possibly one of the most compelling action sequences ever filmed! Die Hard made Director John McTiernan a titan in the action-thriller genre and held four nominations during the 1989 Academy Awards.
