"[A] calm, reflective, gorgeously uneventful slice of nostalgic romance." – Tom Huddleston, Time Out London
Having lived her whole life in the city, 27-year-old Taeko decides to visit her relatives in the countryside. As she travels, memories of her youth resurface and after meeting young farmer Toshio, she wonders if she’s been true to the dreams of her childhood self. Deftly switching between past and present, Only Yesterday is a beautifully animated feature of time and tone, rich with humor and stirring emotion. In typical Isao Takahata style, Only Yesterday moves away from the usual fantasy settings of Ghibli films to tell a realistic, adult drama – demonstrating the versatility of animated storytelling and all the skillful handling of a renowned animation studio.
For over three decades, Studio Ghibli has transported audiences across the globe to magical realms filled with fantastic creatures and awe-inspiring sights. Led by co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, the Japanese studio has garnered numerous awards, set box office records, and touched the hearts of children and adults alike. Join us for a two-week celebration as we present, in partnership with GKIDS, all 22 films (and one short!) in the Complete Studio Ghibli.
