“Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the most deliriously funny, ingenious and stylish American adventure movies ever made.” – Vincent Canby, The New York Times
A group of Nazis is on the hunt for the Ark of the Covenant, which Adolf Hitler believes will make his army invincible, and it’s up to famed archeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) to stop them. Along the way, he’s aided by former lover Marion (Karen Allen), who still harbors bitter feelings toward Jones after their relationship failed. Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the greatest adventure stories in cinematic history – if not the greatest. It’s a testament to the creative team behind the film, which features director Steven Spielberg (king of the summer blockbuster), a story by George Lucas and Phillip Kaufman, and a screenplay by Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan. Roger Ebert said it best: “Raiders of the Lost Ark is an out-of-body experience, a movie of glorious imagination and breakneck speed that grabs you in the first shot, hurtles you through a series of incredible adventures, and deposits you back in reality two hours later -- breathless, dizzy, wrung-out, and with a silly grin on your face.”
