"Arguably the strongest Hollywood movie of the 1960s - a western that galvanizes the clichés of its dying genre with a shocking jolt of delirious carnage." – Village Voice

The Secret Celluloid Society and the Gables Cinema present Sam Peckinpah’s gritty Western classic The Wild Bunch on 35mm as part of our midnight After Hours series! First released in 1969, The Wild Bunch is considered to be director Sam Peckinpah's greatest achievement. The film tells the saga of a gang of doomed outlaws running along the border in the early 1900s. They decide to pull one final heist: Rob a train supplied with U.S. government weapons. Filled with rebellious anti-heroes, sex, and graphic violence, the film was considered a controversy in the 60’s and lead to the deletion of many crucial scenes (though much of Peckinpah's original cut has since been restored). Rolling Stone writes The Wild Bunch is “A towering achievement that grows more riveting and resonant with the years.” And TIME Magazine remarks “Peckinpah's most complex inquiry into the metamorphosis of man into myth. Not incidentally, it is also a raucous, violent, powerful feat of American film making.”

The Gables Cinema presents the best films you never saw on the big screen (or maybe you did) from late-night cult classics to foreign favorites and even summer blockbusters every Saturday at 11:30 pm. Tickets include a free popcorn and happy hour. Please note that unclaimed pre-ordered tickets will be sold to the waitline 30 mins after showtime.
