The Wizard of Oz

Saturday, 10/10 & Sunday, 10/11 at 11:00 am

"A delightful piece of wonder-working." - Frank S. Nugent, New York Times

Victor Fleming’s celebrated children's musical The Wizard of Oz plays at the Gables Cinema on Saturday & Sunday, October 10 & 11 at 11:00 am as part of our Family Day on Aragon series. Based on a book by L. Frank Bam, the film is about country girl Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) who is swept away by a tornado (with her dog Toto) to the magical land of Oz. Dorothy embarks on a difficult journey back to Kansas where along the way she makes friends and one foe - The Wicked Witch of the West. Todd Mccarthy of Variety notes that The Wizard of Oz has “remained in the American cultural mythology for six decades now, and the answers to why they resonate more with deep meaning and feeling than with kitsch value to millions of people lie throughout this remarkable film.” This film is appropriate for ages 6 and up.

Beloved classics and new favorites for the whole family to enjoy! Family Day on Aragon takes place every second Saturday and Sunday and is hosted by the Coral Gables Museum, Books & Books and the Coral Gables Art Cinema. Check with our Aragon neighbors for information on activities taking place at their venues. Tickets to these films are $5 general admission and include a free popcorn and soda.
