After Hours

Martin Scorsese's Black Comedy Trip On 2/7

The Secret Celluloid Society presents Martin Scorsese's black comedy film, After Hours on Saturday, February 7 at 11:30 pm, ironically part of our After Hours series at the Gables Cinema presented in it's original 35mm format. A quiet and meek word processor, Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne), travels to Manhattan's Soho District on an impulse to meet up with an attractive yet highly disturbed young woman Marcy Franklin (Rosanna Arquette). Paul soon finds himself trapped with Marcy in his worst nightmare, stuck inside a surreal vortex of improbable coincidences and absurd circumstances.

After Hours became an instant cult classic and won Scorsese the Best Director Award at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival. With a 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the underrated Scorsese film continues to receive praise. Revered film critic Roger Ebert gave the film a 4/4 rating and added it to his “Great Movies” list, saying “After Hours continues Scorsese's attempt to combine comedy and satire with unrelenting pressure and a sense of all-pervading paranoia." Tickets to this and all other After Hours screenings are $5.00 for everyone and include a free popcorn.

U.S., 97 min, 35mm DCP, Dir. Martin Scorsese, Rated R for sex and nudity, alcohol and drug references, violence and strong language
