Almost 40

Friday, 8/17 to Thursday, 8/30

“Wit, wisdom and simplicity. A Spanish Before Sunset.” – Jonathan Holland, The Hollywood Reporter

They were adolescent lovers. Lucía (Lucía Jiménez) became one half of a successful pop duo but is now settled into domestic life with a husband and two children. Fernando (Fernando Remallo) gets by selling organic cosmetics but seeks to rekindle Lucía’s career with a modest concert tour of the Spanish countryside. David Trueba’s new film (these will be its first screenings outside Spain) reunites the two principals of his first film, The Good Life (1996), two decades later, fast approaching middle age. What became of their dreams and aspirations? Has life changed them in significant ways? Deceptively simple and low-key, Almost 40 is the perfect summer idyll, a breezy, sun-dappled survey of the state of things from a director who loves his characters - and audience - wisely and well.

Tickets to these screenings are $12.75 and under. Cinema members pay only $8.
