An Affair to Remember

Thursday, 2/13 | Valentine's Eve

“Times, styles and morality have changed, but An Affair to Remember still holds its warmth, laughter, pain and humanity.” – Richard Corliss, Time Magazine

Playboy and would-be artist Cary Grant meets lovely, decent Deborah Kerr on a transatlantic cruise. Though engaged to others, they fall in love. As they disembark, they agree to test their new bond by returning to their old loves, then meeting in six months at the top of the Empire State Building (a premise Norah Ephron famously borrowed in her Sleepless in Seattle). Leo McCarey’s An Affair to Remember is the definitive shipboard-romance movie, with Kerr’s sensible radiance, Grant at his most dashing and vulnerable. The last scene makes me teary just to think of it. (Would you excuse me for just a moment?)
