Gremlins

Friday, 12/18 & Saturday, 12/19

"Here's the season's most delicious and unexpected surprise. Despite the horror-flick title, Gremlins is a movie of wicked wit and startling invention, and it has a heart that's at least a match for the special effects." —Peter Travers, People Magazine

Randall Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) gifts his teenage son, Billy (Zach Galligan), the cutest gift imaginable: an adorable furry creature called a mogwai. The rules for keeping this pet are simple: keep your mogwai away from water, bright lights, and, most importantly, never—never—feed him after midnight. Of course, the rules are inadvertently broken and out comes a horde of gremlins that terrorize Billy, his family, and the idyllic town of Kingston Falls. As Roger Ebert described it, Joe Dante's Gremlins is a "sly series of send-ups" that is a terrifying delight "exploiting every trick in the monster-movie book." Though rated PG at the time, its violent scenes led to the creation of the PG-13 rating.
