Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll
Tuesday, 5/2 at 7:00 pm
"The most revealing look we'll ever get of its subject, and the most loving evocation of his music." – Richard Harrington, Washington Post
On March 18, Chuck Berry passed away at the age of 90 and we lost "the Shakespeare of rock 'n' roll," according to Bob Dylan or "its master theorist and conceptual genius, the songwriter who understood what teenagers wanted before they knew themselves," according to Jon Pareles, music critic of The New York Times. Thirty years ago, Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a Gentleman, Ray) captured the man and the artist on the occasion of his 60th birthday in concert (with A-list guests like Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Etta James and Linda Ronstadt) and amid candid interviews with peers like Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers. The resulting documentary now stands as the definitive portrait - warts and all - of a complex and garrulous legend.
A special Chuck Berry-inspired berry rum cocktail will be available at the cinema cafe for one night only during the film.
