Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Saturday, June 10

"John Cameron Mitchell's cross-dressing musical buzzes with the feel of real rock 'n' roll." –Stephanie Zacharek, Salon

"Critic's Pick. Clever, funny, wildly innovative." –Steven Holden, The New York Times

A rock musical that follows the journey of an East German transgender woman named Hedwig Robinson, who undergoes a botched sex change operation in order to escape to the West and find freedom in America.

As Hedwig travels across the country, she and her band, the Angry Inch, perform in dive bars and clubs while she recounts her life story and the search for her other half, Tommy Gnosis, a former lover and protégé who stole her music and became a famous rock star.

Through her music and storytelling, Hedwig explores themes of gender identity, sexuality, love, loss, and the search for self-acceptance. Along the way, she also discovers a deeper understanding of herself and her place in the world.

The musical features an electrifying score with catchy rock songs that pay homage to legends like David Bowie and Iggy Pop. It premiered off-Broadway in 1998 and has since become a cult classic.
