“A perfect movie for the moment ... unusually welcoming and engaging. The central performances are all terrific. The glimpses of Tel Aviv at work and play are tantalizing. The party is over too soon!” – A.O. Scott, The New York Times
In Arab-Israeli director Maysaloun Hamoud’s feature debut, three Palestinian women share an apartment in the heart of Tel Aviv. Laila, a criminal lawyer, burns off her workday stress in the underground club scene. Salma, a DJ and bartender, starts a romantic relationship with a female medical intern. And their new roommate Nur is a younger, religious Muslim university student whose conservative fiancé is horrified by her secular friends. These three very different women find themselves doing the same balancing act between tradition and modernity, citizenship and culture, fealty and freedom. “The free-spirited and joyful women that Hamoud portrays ... are true heroines of our time,” exclaimed Isabelle Huppert when she bestowed the Young Talent Award to the film’s director at the last Cannes Film Festival.
Tickets to these screenings are $12.75 and under. Cinema members pay only $8.
