Inglourious Basterds (35mm)
Saturday, 6/8
“Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is a big, bold, audacious war movie that will annoy some, startle others and demonstrate once again that he's the real thing, a director of quixotic delights.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
Brad Pitt leads a lean, mean Nazi-killing team made up of Jewish soldiers (Eli Roth, B. J. Novak, Til Schweiger, and others) tasked with infiltrating enemy lines and assassinating the biggest baddie of all: Adolf Hitler. Hunted by a ruthless SS colonel (Christoph Waltz, in a role that won him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and propelled him to worldwide fame), the Basterds cross paths with a French Jewish woman (Melanie Laurent) who’s own desire for vengeance sets the stage for a gloriously explosive finale. Inglourious Basterds is Quentin Tarantino’s thrilling take on the war genre, a Dirty Dozen-style concoction filled with brutal violence, Mexican stand-offs, trademark sharp dialogue, and deft screenwriting skills that, as Roger Ebert says, turns characters into Characters. As the trailer says, you haven’t seen war until you’ve seen it through the eyes of QT.
