“Jaws is a grisly film, often ugly as sin, which achieves precisely what it set out to accomplish – scare the hell out of you." – Arthur Cooper, Newsweek
Steven Spielberg instilled a fear of water in millions of moviegoers with the release of the very first summer blockbuster, Jaws. A gruesome great white shark terrorizes the resort town of Amity Island, sending police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) on the hunt for the killer creature. After several fatalities cripple the island’s Fourth of July celebrations, Brody enlists oceanographer Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) for help, setting out for a confrontation on the high seas with death itself. Drawing influences from Moby-Dick and Alfred Hitchcock, Spielberg created a landmark film that put him on the map and rightfully won three Academy Awards, including Best Score.
