Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Saturday, 1/27
“Among the boldest and most ambitious stories ever attempted in its franchise, and it is as acute, and compelling, and satisfyingly Batmanny as any of the Batman features, if not moreso.” – Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy
When the city's most feared gangsters are systematically eliminated, the Caped Crusader is blamed. But prowling the Gotham night is a shadowy new villain, the Phantasm, a sinister figure with some link to Batman's past. Can the Dark Knight elude the police, capture the Phantasm and clear his own name? Batman: Mask of the Phantasm continued the stylish, film-noir aesthetic and mature story-telling of Batman: The Animated Series, was also helmed by series creators Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm, and features the voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. Although a box office bomb due to a last minute decision by Warner Bros. to release it theatrically, the film was a hit with audiences and critics alike. It stands as one of the best theatrical outings for the Dark Knight and we’re celebrating its 25th anniversary with a rare screening on 35mm.
