Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

"More emotionally wracked with each new entry, the Potter franchise has become a mainstream fantasy metaphor for adolescent crisis. It’s Rebel Without a Curse." – Ty Burr, Boston Globe

Year Five. After facing off against Lord Voldemort during the events of Goblet of Fire, Harry returns to Hogwarts amidst widespread denial of the Dark Lord’s return. Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge believes Dumbledore is secretly fueling the rumors in a bid for the magisterial position, an idea Harry and friends know is preposterous. But when the minister installs Dolores Umbridge as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the Hogwarts students are stuck learning theory instead of practical spells that will protect them in the looming war. Hermione decides to start a secret, student-led group to teach the sorely needed spells. Order of the Phoenix features the most reviled character in the Harry Potter universe, Professor Umbridge, who is portrayed pitch-perfectly by the inimitable Imelda Staunton. The film also introduces Helena Bonham Carter as the fanatically insane Bellatrix Lestrange.

In 1997, J. K. Rowling opened a door to a magical world of wizards and witches with the publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Twenty years later, the Harry Potter novels turned into a multi-media franchise that includes a theme park, several video games, stage play, and – most beloved of all – an eight-part film series that is the second highest-grossing one of all time. To celebrate this special anniversary, the Gables Cinema transforms into Hogwarts with a four-week retrospective of the Harry Potter films. Whether you’re reliving the wonders of Rowling’s world or discovering it for the first time, join us as we present the epic tale of the Boy Who Lived.

Tickets are $5 general admission for the first two films and $8 for the remaining films.
