A wildly inventive new French comedy from Quentin Dupieux, Smoking Causes Coughing follows the misadventures of a team of five superheroes known as the Tobacco Force—Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anaïs Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra). After a devastating battle against a diabolical giant turtle, the Tobacco Force is sent on a mandatory week-long retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their sojourn goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth.
French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux, also a musician and DJ known by the stage name Mr. Oizo, first made waves over two decades ago with the music video for his own hit song "Flat Beat." The clip, featuring a yellow puppet who became a viral sensation, foreshadowed the surreal and darkly comic feature films that he would go on to make: Rubber (2010), Wrong (2012), and Deerskin (2019).
Please note: seating is general admission.
Tickets to these screenings are $12.75 and under. Cinema members pay only $8.
