Temblores (Tremors)

Friday, 11/29 to Thursday, 12/5

“There are any number of movies about gay men trying to liberate themselves from the long shadow of heteronormative oppression ... but few have been told with the extraordinary nuance and compassion of Temblores.” – David Ehrlich, IndieWire

“This strong second feature from Guatemalan talent Jayro Bustamente doesn’t ask new questions, but its sensuous, reverberating atmospherics find fresh, angry ways to answer them.” – Guy Lodge, Variety

When handsome and charismatic Pablo (Juan Pablo Olyslager) arrives at his affluent family’s home, everyone is eagerly awaiting the return of the prodigal son, devoted father and caring husband. A pillar of Guatemala City’s Evangelical Christian community, Pablo’s announcement that he intends to leave his family for another man sends shock waves through the family. In the deeply personal follow-up to his landmark debut Ixcanul, Jayro Bustamente once again sets his sights on an individual caught between two irreconcilable worlds. Winner of the Best Latin Film at San Sebastian, Temblores catapults Bustamente to the front ranks of Spanish-language directors.

Unity Coalition is a community partner for the Miami Theatrical Run of Temblores.

Tickets to these screenings are $12.75 and under. Cinema members pay only $8.
