The Commune
Now Playing Thru Thursday, 6/8!
"Free love comes at a high price in Thomas Vinterberg's latest comic drama, a warm-hearted period piece partly inspired by the Danish writer-director's own childhood growing up in a hippie commune in 1970s Copenhagen." – Stephen Dalton, Hollywood Reporter
Thomas Vinterberg (Far from the Madding Crowd, The Hunt, The Celebration) returns to his native Denmark with this 70s-set tale of bohemian living. When academic Erik (Ulrich Thomsen) inherits a large house, wife Anna (Trine Dyrholm) suggests inviting friends and random eccentrics to cohabit. As tensions surface, peace, love and togetherness are tested. Driven by lead performances from Vinterberg's Celebration stars Thomsen and Dyrholm, The Commune is a sharply observed study of how new values can quickly come into conflict with old habits and affiliations. Among its many prizes, The Commune won the European Academy Award for Best Editing and Danish Academy Awards for Best Screenplay Adaptation and Best Actress, a recognition Ms. Dyrholm also received at the Berlin Film Festival.
Tickets to these screenings are $12.75 and under. Cinema members pay only $8.
