"Spectacular scenery, stupefying effects and epic scope ... a dream come true." —Rita Kempley, Washington Post
4K DCP Extended Edition
The future of Middle-earth rests in the fate of the One Ring, which has been lost for centuries. Powerful forces are unrelenting in their search for it. But fate has placed it in the hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who inherits the Ring and steps into legend. A daunting task lies ahead for Frodo when he becomes the Ringbearer - to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom where it was forged. Peter Jackson revolutionized the epic fantasy genre with the first installment in his acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy. Considerable and well-deserved praise and accolades have been heaped upon the films for their beautiful, expansive sets; the intricate weaponry, armor, and creature designs by then nascent Weta Workshop; and the mammoth Wagnerian score by Howard Shore, to name a few reasons. But at the core of the films' success is the titular Fellowship, comprising nine actors - Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, John Rhys-Davies, Orlando Bloom, and Sean Bean - who seem to have walked right out of the pages written by J.R.R. Tolkien to bring the characters to palpable life and make audiences cheer, laugh, and weep alongside them as they battle against the purest evil.
