The Two Towers

Sunday, 9/5

"An army of filmmakers led by the director, Peter Jackson, has made the trilogy's central section a ringing testament to the power of motion pictures." —Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

4K DCP Extended Edition

The sequel to the Golden Globe-nominated and AFI Award-winning The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers follows the continuing quest of Frodo (Elijah Wood) and the Fellowship to destroy the One Ring. Frodo and Sam (Sean Astin) discover they are being followed by the mysterious Gollum. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), the Elf archer Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli the Dwarf (John Rhys-Davies) encounter the besieged Rohan kingdom, whose once great King Theoden (Bernard Hill) has fallen under Saruman's (Christopher Lee) deadly spell. The second part in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings amps up the action to eleven, culminating in the Battle of Helm's Deep, heralded as one of the greatest battles ever depicted on screen. Over 20 hours of footage, captured over 120 days, was cut down for a 40-minute sequence pitting a contingent of Men and Elves against an assault from the beast-like Uruk-hai. It's unadulterated spectacle of the highest caliber yet combined with masterful storytelling and character building that is an unrivaled achievement in cinema.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring, Gables Cinema presents a Labor Day weekend marathon of the 4K remasters of the Extended Editions of Peter Jackson's epic fantasy trilogy.
